  • Live Tournament Series

A couple weeks ago I talked about the benefits of using a PokerStars marketing code and getting rakeback when participating in online games. This time I would like to describe some recent and upcoming live tournaments sponsored by PokerStars. Every year a huge number of live tournament series are sponsored by PokerStars, and there are always online satellites for those that cannot afford to buy-in directly.

European Poker Tour London wrapped up in early October. If you are a member of PokerStars Elite, you could have chosen to sit in the Main Event for part of your PokerStars rakeback perks. Taking place from September 29th and October 4th, the series was a great success. The Main Event was a £5,250 buy-in, and the total prize pool ended up being £4,112,800 with 848 registered players. To be a PokerStars player in one of these events, you must satellite on the biggest download free poker site or you must be sponsored by the site. The most successful PokerStars player in the field ended up being Arturn Wasek; he finished in 4th place for £240,000.

Many people support the PokerStars bonus code because of the site’s charity work. A charity event took place during EPT London from October 2-4. The total buy-in for the event was £100+10+10, and £10 from each participant was donated to Cancer Research UK. Re-entries were permitted in this event, and the guaranteed prize pool was an impressive £100,000. For those that couldn’t make the event but still wanted to donate, they could do so with the PokerStars download. Funds could be transferred directly to the user ID “CancerUK”.

The Belgian Open Poker Championship is another series that recently finished this month. Four days were dedicated to Day 1, and the other days were filled with smaller tournaments. There were six total events scheduled. Female fans of top Texas Holdem sites left their computers for the day to play a special Ladies only freezeout on October 17th for €110.

If you are American and play in casinos for USA players, you can participate in the United States Poker Championship in Atlantic City. The Main Event is $5,250, and if you find this a bit much, your seat can be won via an online satellite. Or you can play one of several smaller events between $300 and $600. If you want to play the Ladies Event, the buy-in is $265+$35.

These days people are into downloading poker clients or even using poker flash, but the live poker scene is still as popular as it ever was. If you want to become known in the poker community, your best bet might be to win a large scale brick-and-mortar event. It is nice to see that PokerStars is bridging the gap between the live and online communities by hosting so many great live events.
